I must admit that I have a soft spot for Noir stylings. The use of light, the mix of soft and hard focus, the fashion and the overall look. There is something that is just beautiful about it. Maybe it also goes with my love of Art Deco movement.
The shoot with Vanessa was fun trying to emulate the look that I love. It's actually quite challenging and gave me even more appreciation of photographers and especially cinematographers that worked (and still work) with this aesthetic.
Sara is the principal of Dr Sketchy's Anti-Art School, Launceston. The next event is this coming Thursday. If you are in Launceston, make sure you come along and get your draw/paint/art on.
We had a fun few hours in the studio on Saturday trying out new equipment and trying not to melt in the 33 degree heat.
I haven't done one of these since the beginning of the blog. It was about time I did another one. This time let me introduce Kim Lee of Roaringstorm Photography,
Kim is a roller derby photographer from Sydney. A bloody good one. When I went looking to learn how to improve my skills in this field, Kim's name and photos kept turning up.
Over the last 12 months I have gotten to know Kim, talk to him a fair bit about derby photography and even met him in person (it's as scary as it sounds). His mentorship has been invaluable to me and while I am always striving to become better and unique, Kim has made sure that the path hasn't been as daunting as when I first started shooting girls on skates (that will always sound bad).
Kim also help me become part of the conversation with the family of derby photographers world wide. It's great to be apart of a community that is friendly, helpful and full of interesting people that I would never have met before.
So if you like Derby, and want to see who I consider best in Australia, then jump over to the Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/roaringstormphotography

I met Liv when she was doing make up for Genevieve for Dr Sketchies. I asked if she would be interested in doing a shoot thinking more about working with her as a makeup artist, but it went the other way and she stepped in front of the camera. My first impression of her was Alt-Pin-up girl, and that where we went in the shoot.
Expect to see more photos of Liv in the future as we have a heap of fun images and the world must see them.
